Fracking has helped increase the US oil production to Saudi Arabian levels. Regardless of the Saudi response, US fracking has a fundamental limit. Saudi Arabia has a lot more oil in the ground. America’s fracking high may only last ten years. After that, if no other energy source has taken its place, the control of oil supplies reverts to OPEC again. Ironically, cleaning American water, air, and soil may eventually require energy from non-American sources because the US sources will have been depleted.
