Argentina has found itself the target of predatory lenders. The concern was that a sovereign nation would find itself at the mercy of extra-national lenders. Have financial institutions finally become so powerful that they could take down a government? The question continues to be asked. Rather than capitulate, rather than acquiesce to decisions in made in non-Argentine courts, Argentina decided to renegotiate its debt with sovereign nations, identify the predatory lenders as “not working in good faith”, and treat them similarly. The fight continues with the outcome possibly being a judgment on the power of money versus the power of country.
