“Collectively, they’ll account for roughly 17 percent of the US’s energy production, while coal will only provide about 15 percent.” – Ars Technica
That’s the news from Ars Technica. Thanks to solar energy generation seeing a 30% increase in 2024 alone, wind power and solar power generated more energy than coal in the US in 2024. This is clearly a milestone for solar and wind energy. The caveat is that the biggest energy producer was still non-renewable natural gas at 44%. An interesting twist to the story is that they are reporting it one month early as the new US administration is likely to change reporting standards (which also suggests that they won’t be standards because they just changed.) Regardless and despite government policies, renewable energy production continues to advance.
