Malaria claims many lives. There are no general solutions, but there are various simple protections like sleeping in a net, and removing stagnant water. One solution may not require reconfiguring a net throughout the night, or being ever-vigilant about standing water. The higher a house is from the ground, the fewer mosquitoes it attracts. Building a house on stilts may cost more, but it is a one-time expense. Raising the house’s main sleeping floor 3 meters drops the mosquito population by 84%. Mosquitoes tend to fly low, so many miss the house. Mosquitoes are attracted to carbon dioxide from our breathing, and the elevated area is more likely to drain and exhaust the gas. Simple things may not be panaceas, but they may be easier to employ.
