Suicides are particularly noticeable at work where people are spending more of their time, are more likely to be in hazardous situations, and may be reminded of financial difficulties. Farmer suicides are also up, and relative isolation may be a contributing factor. Lose 10,000 lives from a disease, and an industry will arise to treat it and profit from it. Lose 10,000 people to financial difficulties and touch a taboo that’s too tough to address.
