Unemployment is down to 5.5%. That was enough in the past for celebrations, but now this recovery is different. The labor participation rate is constant. Wages are only up 2%. Most of the new jobs pay enough to get people off food stamps and support, but not much else, so the economy doesn’t experience increased expenditures. There’s no way to know if this is temporary, or the new normal.
