Depending on who you ask there are between 500,000 to over 3,500,000 Americans that are homeless. Setting aside the fact that there are about 18,000,000 vacant homes, – Nah, don’t set that aside. Think about that.

Okay, back to the point. Finding homes for the homeless doesn’t require providing a standard suburban level of housing. The tiny house movement has provided inspiration for tiny shelters that provide the majority of the benefits without the majority of the costs. The details are still being worked out, but for places that aren’t replicating Salt Lake City’s homeless initiative, it may make economic and compassionate sense to build tiny homes (less than 200 square feet) for the homeless that want them.
