Control of the Mississippi, oil drilling in the bayou, are a couple of human activities that have caused Louisiana to shrink. The Mississippi delta hasn’t replenished shorelines, and coastal erosion has become shoreline retreat – but, nature shows the way with two other deltas that are growing. Land loss is not inevitable. An interesting race is on though, between delta development and sea level rise. The improvement may be temporary.
