Plastic packaging makes very little sense ecologically. Plastics last a long time, and recycling is never 100%. Mushrooms, however, are being used with agricultural waste to create a composite that can be used for packaging, and then can be readily composted. Packaging doesn’t have to survive for centuries, sometimes only days; therefore, use materials that last long enough, and are then returned to a natural state.
