Computers are controlling more of our lives. Even tasks like applying for a job or a loan involves submitting information to software. Algorithms attempt to predict the most favorable outcome for the institution based on history. If the history reflects discrimination, the decisions may reinforce those injustices. Companies may continue to do so, though, because it costs less and no human is directly at fault.
