Some consider rising sea levels to have simple solutions. Building taller dikes worked from them. It could work for the world. But, decades of building taller dikes as flood protection had the unintentional consequence of diverting soil as well as water. River deltas sunk, exacerbating the impact of rising sea levels. It’s been happening in Louisiana. It’s been happening in Bangladesh – and at a rate twice as severe as global warming alone. Challenging land use policies may be the only thing that saves the land.
