Two government agencies (National Intelligence Council, National Science Foundation) predict that within 16 years transhumans will be a significant issue. Sixteen years ago, few people knew the term, and that’s still the case. Yet, within a couple of decades enhanced humans may be common. That may sound extreme, but it is merely the subtle continuation of a powerful trend. Today, new joints are common. Got a new hip or knee? Enhanced organs sound futuristic. Got a hearing aid or pacemaker? Prosthetics have advanced as we treat the aged and the veterans. The advances continue. Eventually, healthy humans may feel compelled to upgrade merely to remain competitive. Better Internet access and phone reception, of course some would be willing to wear a chip for that. How about on the skin as a tattoo? How about under the skin? How about under the scalp? How about under the skull?
