Good news for Chicago and bad news for New York City and Los Angeles.
Urbanization is the most efficient use of resources. Economies of scale, reduced transportation, minimum footprint maximizing farmable land.
Unfortunately, urbanization also concentrates all of our wastes: heat, air, water, stuff. Epidemics become more possible.
And, unfortunately, climate change is already happening, the sea levels are rising, and many of the great cities are coastal.
The costs, benefits, and political will have yet to be sorted out.
