There is an upside to losing the ice cap. It doesn’t compensate, but it is providing opportunities for drilling and transportation. Less ice, easier to drill. Less ice, easier to get from the Atlantic to the Pacific. The downside to the slight upside, lots of governments want their share and they don’t intend to share. The militaries look north.
