News from Ferguson to Syria can convince us that people are becoming more violent.

Data from around the world, however, proves the opposite. Fewer people are dying from violence. Wars are smaller. Domestic violence is shrinking.

The very thing that makes us more aware of violence is the very thing that’s helping to curtail it. We are becoming a global population. Atrocities that were taken for granted are seen for what they are, and are subsequently reduced through legislation and more effectively, peer pressure. Because we’re become more aware, and are reacting more strongly, the threat is diminishing.
